Google is taking the search experience it has been developing for 25 years one step further with productive artificial intelligence. From research, planning and brainstorming to any question you have and anything you need to do, Google now does the legwork for you.
This innovative experience is made possible by a new Gemini model developed specifically for Google Search. With advanced capabilities such as multi-step reasoning, planning and multimodality, this Gemini model is paired with Google’s world-class Search systems.
Fast answers with AI Overviews
Sometimes you need a quick answer, but don’t have time to gather all the information together. This is where AI Overviews comes in. AI Overviews provide a quick overview of a topic and links to further information. AI Overviews helps users use Search more and be more satisfied with the results, and is available to everyone in the US, with more countries coming soon.
Customizing AI Overviews
Soon, you will be able to customize AI Overviews with options to simplify its language or make it more detailed. This feature can be useful when you are new to a topic or need to simplify something to satisfy your child’s curiosity.
Answers to your complex questions
Thanks to Gemini’s multi-step reasoning capabilities, AI Overviews helps answer increasingly complex questions. Now, instead of splitting your question across multiple searches, you can ask your most complex questions all at once, with all the nuances and caveats.
For example, if you’re looking for a new yoga or pilates studio and want one that’s popular with locals, conveniently located for commuting, and offers discounts for new members, you’ll soon be able to ask a question like “Find the best yoga or pilates studios in Boston and walk from Beacon Hill, showing commute times and details of starting offers” in a single search.
Planning features
Beyond finding the right answer or information to a complex question, Google Search can now also plan with you. With planning features directly in Search, you can get help creating plans for everything you need, from meals to vacations. Search something like “Create an easy to prepare 3-day meal plan for a group” and you’ll get a starting point with a variety of recipes from around the web.
If you want to change anything, you can easily make adjustments, such as changing dinner to a vegetarian meal. This is how Google Search will customize your meal plan. You can quickly export your meal plan to Docs or Gmail.
Meal and travel planning is currently available in Search Labs in English in the US. Later this year, customization features and more categories like parties, date night and workouts will be added.
AI-edited results page
When looking for new ideas, it can be time-consuming to find inspiration and consider all your options. Soon, when searching for ideas, Google Search will generate an AI-organized results page that makes it easier to brainstorm and explore with you.
You’ll see useful results with a wide range of perspectives and content types, categorized under unique, AI-generated headings.
Search by video
Google Search now understands much more than words in a text box. Often the questions you ask are about things you see around you, including objects in motion.
Thanks to advances in video understanding, visual search has been taken to a whole new level with the ability to ask questions with video. For example, you bought a second-hand record player, but when you turn it on, it doesn’t work and the metal part with the needle slips unexpectedly. Instead of finding the right words to describe this problem, you can search by video and get AI Overviews with troubleshooting steps and resources.
Video search will soon be available in Search Labs for English-language users in the US and will expand to more regions over time.
Google Search combines with Gemini’s advanced capabilities to redefine the search experience. It facilitates research, planning, brainstorming and more, giving users a faster, more efficient and satisfying search experience.
